    Green Meadow Swim Meet Information…6/17/2021

    Pirate Families,

As we gear up for our first swim meet on Thursday, June 17, we want to provide you with some valuable information about meets in general as well as our first meet AT Green Meadow specifically. Please reach out via email ([email protected] OR [email protected]), with specific questions or concerns.

Address: 1700 Louisville Rd Alcoa, TN 37701

    Arrival Time: 4:15-4:30

    Warm Up Time: 5:00PM

    Meet starts: 5:30PM

Please arrive wearing your team suits (or a black racing suit). We will have the new caps ready for distribution at check in. Swimmers are expected to wear these caps for their races. Please write your swimmer’s first and last name on their back and their event numbers on their arms in sharpie. This helps our clerk of course keep track of them and make sure they get to the correct lanes and races.

The meet line-up will be sent out Wednesday night. Swimmers are expected to compete in the races they are listed in and should not leave the meet before any of those races. If there are major issues with events your swimmer is listed in, please reach out to us. If there is an emergency and you must leave early, please let one of the coaches know.

Location- Peninsula Club team’s spot to set up will be located on the far side of our pool, on the concrete pad that is behind the block area. We have a canopy built on that side, but I would also encourage your team to bring pop-up tents if your families have those. There is more space out there but it definitely will be warm (hopefully not rainy!) so the more shade the better!

The golf course is directly behind your tent area. There is a grassy area and then the cart path dividing the area. Please help us keep kids off of the golf course portion. We will have a lifeguard stationed out there as well. There is a sand trap that is close to there that is very attractive to the kids. We have also installed a new gate on the side of our pool, where your coaches normally station so that should make that area a lot more convenient this year for your team and parents. This will allow more access for your team onto the pool deck.

We are asking for parents to sit outside of the pool deck this year to allow more distancing on the pool deck. Parents can come onto the pool deck to watch their kids races. Otherwise, we will try to limit the deck to swimmers, coaches, and volunteers.

Parking- We have a paved parking lot around our pool. When this overflows, we will have a parking attendant directing cars into the back grassy area behind the parking lot. Cars can also park along the road leading into the club. We will have someone out there, but as long as they don't park on the actual golf course or block any cart paths, it’s ok. Please ensure that no one parks on the actual golf course.

Concessions- The Country Club does not allow outside food or drinks into the club. However, for meets, we do allow families to bring snacks, water, gatorade, etc. We just ask that no one bring a large cooler into the meet or try to bring meals for everyone. We have a concession stand that will have typical snack/pool food- drinks, candy, chips. There will also be a grill serving hotdogs and hamburgers (I believe) and other concessions. This is a sanctioned GKAISA meet and as such there is no alcohol or tobacco consumption allowed.

Worker/Officials Meeting:This meeting is generally held at 5PM. If you are signed up to be a volunteer please attend. The location and exact time will be announced by the host team, so please keep your ears open for this call.

New Swimmers and Neverland Pirates: Swim meets are the best part of the season. Our swimmers get to compete alongside their friends and teammates. They get to see the payoff from their hard work, and they get to walk away with pride in what they have accomplished individually and as a part of a team. If your swimmer can swim the complete length of the pool without assistance, they can compete in meets. I believe every swimmer should try to compete in a meet at some point this season.

However, swim meets can be an overwhelming experience for new swimmers as well as new swim parents. If you have an inexperienced swimmer or Neverland Pirate swim team member, I want to encourage you to go with your gut. You know your swimmer better than anyone. If you think that a meet will be a positive experience for them right now, let them swim! However, if you think they would benefit from a few more weeks (or a whole season) of practice before competing, there is no harm in waiting.

    Goooooooooooooo Pirates!
